Teen killed in U. Mac while trick or treating

A 14-year-old Upper Macungie boy was killed Oct. 26 while trick-or-treating with a friend along Schantz Road in the area of Balsam Street and Cottonwood Road.

Jordan Steinmetz, 14, of Lisa Court, Upper Macungie Township, died Oct. 26, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.

According to Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim, the teen was pronounced dead 11:45 p.m.

Grim, who said his cause of death was multiple blunt force injuries, ruled the manner of Steinmetz's death an accident.

According to the coroner, the incident occurred Oct. 26, at approximately 8:21 p.m. in front of 6429 Schantz Road, Upper Macungie Township.

Berks-Lehigh Regional Police say a preliminary investigation, conducted by the patrol and traffic divisions, indicates a sport utility vehicle driven by an adult male was westbound when he approached two juveniles walking westbound on the side of the road.

The juveniles were in costume and were presumed to be trick or treating.

Steinmetz was struck by the SUV.
