Crash closes

State Police Troop M Fogelsville say Richard Gerchufsky, 59, of New Tripoli, was driving a 2006 Mitsubishi Galant westbound on Route 22, merging onto I-78, Upper Macungie Township, at 6:49 p.m. Dec. 21, 2012, when the car sideswiped a 2010 Subaru Outback driven by Kathleen Buchheit, 69, of Womelsdorf.

Gerchufsky lost control of his car, which began to spin.

The Mitsubishi then hit a 2003 Chrysler Sebring driven by Gregory Searfoss, 38, of Germansville, in the rear causing him to lose control and hit the barrier on the right shoulder.

The Mitsubishi continued to spin and hit a 2004 Ford Taurus driven by Tave Faust, 41, of Macungie, in the rear, before coming to a final rest on the white dotted line between the center and left lanes facing eastbound.

Searfoss was transported by Cetronia Ambulance Corps to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.

Both the Mitsubishi and Chrysler sustained disabling damage and were removed by Faust Towing.

The Subaru and Ford sustained minor damage, police say.

I-78 was closed for approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, police say.

Trooper Adam, Cpl. Brobst, and PennDot assisted at the scene.

for DUI

State Police Troop M Fogelsville say Donnell Snyder, 39, of Easton, was stopped at 2:58 a.m. Dec. 27 for several alleged traffic violations on Routes 309 at Route 22, South Whitehall Township.

Police say prior to stopping Snyder, he allegedly threw a plastic bag from his vehicle.

The bag was retrieved by state police and allegedly contained suspected marijuana, police say.

Police allege Snyder displayed multiple indicators of impairment.

He was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, possession of a small amount of marijuana and tampering with evidence.

Charges will be filed before District Judge Jake Hammond, South Whitehall Township.
