Letter to The Editor
To The Editor:
I am writing regarding Debbie Galbraith's article [Editor's View page A10 Parkland, Northwestern Press] on the ASPCA commercials published Jan. 17 2013.
I liked what you reported about the ASPCA, but I am somewhat dissappointed you did not mention Forgotten Felines and Fidos shelter in your list of local animal organizations.
They have resided in Germansville, Heidelberg Township since 2000 and have a lot of cats for adoption, provide low-cost spay/neuter and desperately need volunteers.
A couple things bother me about the ASPCA commercials and I wish you would have addressed that with the person you contacted.
They could at least mention spay/neuter could prevent a lot of animals suffering (same can be said for the HSUS commercials). And in the one commercial they say you can financially adopt an animal at "our shelter."
That is misleading because the ASPCA does not have a shelter per se.
They support shelters throughout the country. I wonder if they give money to organizations that are running spay/neuter programs?
Preventing the birth of so many animals throughout the country and the world is the only way you will stop the abuse.
