Letter to the editor Writer supports Second Amendment right to bear arms
To the Editor:
At what cost does freedom come? And what are we willing to pay to keep it?
We generally delegate that duty to our armed forces against outside enemies.
Did we ever think the day would come when we would pay a price to have to stand up against the enemy of our freedom coming from our own elected officials?
The latest attempt from our liberal government to chip away at our Second Amendment right to bear arms has resulted in the shut down of the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show scheduled for Feb. 2-10.
No, the government did not shut it down, rather it was many exhibitors boycotting show promoter, Reed Exhibitions, when it decided to prohibit the exhibition and sale of so-called assault weapons at the show.
These exhibitors are paying a great price with the loss of the revenue they normally expect from being in the show, not to mention all the expenses already incurred in booking the show, stocking up and preparing for it.
These are real financial losses.
They include everyone from retail stores to the mom-and-pop businesses.
I have been an exhibitor in the show for 34 years and I know what is involved.
However, this year I hadn't contracted to exhibit at the show, but I supported the boycott.
First of all, there is no such thing as an assault weapon. It is a general term liberals use to apply to a broad range of hunting, recreational and defensive weapons to conjure offensive sentiment toward them by the non-participating public.
Second, and more importantly, the Second Amendment of our national Constitution is not about weapons for hunting, rather it is the right to bear arms for self-defense and defense of our state.
In that light, defensively, it is necessary to have weapons capable of matching those of our enemy.
A hunting rifle limited to five bullets is no defense against a gang with automatic weapons capable of 15 or more bullets.
Would you send your soldiers to war with hunting rifles against an enemy with machine guns?
Our elected representatives took an oath to defend the Constitution.
They need to be held accountable. And, we the people, need to overcome our apathy and become educated on the issues.
A good place to begin is by reading the Constitution.
It is a document forged from the Godly wisdom of God-fearing men who paid for our freedom with their fortunes and their blood.
Today's Godless liberal elite believes the Constitution is archaic, not relevant for our Godless secular society and they are chipping away at it. Another example is Obamacare.
Where do you stand?
The Second Amendment is not the only freedom under assault by the progressive liberals. It is time to take a stand.
