Wayne A. Herber, 86, of Laurys Station, died April 8, 2013, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.

He and his wife Twila V. (Bowman) Herber celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary last Aug. 20.

Born July 17, 1926, in Weisenberg Township, he was the son of the late Warren A. and Annie L. (Frey) Herber.

He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

A millwright at ConAgra Inc. for 40 years, he retired in 1991.

Active in the life of his community, he was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Laurys Station, where he formerly served on the consistory, a life member and past commander of the former Vernon G. Kern VFW Post 8344, Schnecksville, former assistant chief, life member and fire police of Laurys Station Fire Company, and a former Boy Scout Leader.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Gregory A. and wife Connie of Slatington, Dr. Wayne K. and wife Terri of Coopersburg; daughter Anita V. Troxel and husband R. Scott of Laurys Station; sisters Irene A. Mantz of Allentown, Pauline A. Lentz of Slatington, Ruth A., wife of Sterling Raber of New Tripoli, Barbara A. Schwartz and husband Joseph of Laurys Station; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his brothers Glen R. and Carl W.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. April 12, at St. John's UCC, 1415 Rising Sun Road, Laurys Station, with the Rev. Dr. James T. Gottwald officiating. Family and friends may pay their respects 9-10:30 a.m. Friday in the church foyer.

Interment with military honors will follow the service at Weisenberg Lutheran Church Cemetery, New Tripoli.
