Parkland's boys cross country team did what it set out to do at the Lehigh Valley Conference Championships on Tuesday at Bethlehem Municipal, clinching second place with 66 points by outscoring Easton, which took third place with 95 points.

Freedom's boys team won the meet with 33 points.

Trojan junior Grant Newman placed seventh in 17:15, first for Parkland.

"I think our team did great today," he said. "My plan was to stick with the main pack and get ahead at the end, but the pack went out too fast. I didn't have a sprint at the end."

Newman spent most of the race pacing himself off of Whitehall runner, Gabe Lamm.

"We're usually close to each other in races," said Newman.

Lamm outstepped Newman in the end, placing sixth in 17:13.

"I feel like I can do better [in districts]," he said. "We haven't started to taper yet."

Parkland teammate Lucas Crampton placed 12th in 17:34, second for the Trojans.

"I think I was a little more conservative," Crampton said. "I stuck with the pack and didn't blow it out. We run pretty tight [as a team], but within the group, we shift. Michael Geiger and Eric Scheler ran great today."

Geiger finished in 13th place in 17:41. Scheler placed 14th in 17:45.

Also racing for Parkland were Loren Skinker, who finished 20th in 17:58; Sean Micca, who finished 24th in 18:07; Justin Bergen, who placed 25th in 18:07. 70; Jonathan Ceh, who was 27th in 18:13; and Jacob Anchorstar, who placed 31st in 18:26.

The District 11 Championships are scheduled for next week.

"I think we have a pretty good shot at districts. We beat Easton today," Crampton said.
