Divers compete at league meet
The Parkland diving team took some tough hits from graduation, but proved that its still a pretty strong bunch with a good performance at the Lehigh Valley Conference Diving competition at Emmaus High School last weekend.
Parkland divers took three of the top four spots on the boys side and two of the top five on the girls side at the LVC Meet.
Maddy Hain was the top finisher for the girls, coming in third behind Central Catholic's Nicole Sagl and Easton's Kelsey Jehl. Serena Johnson turned in a good performance and finished fifth, just 12 points behind Hain. Maddie Poremsky (10th), Dana Emsweiler (16th) and Jenn Valek (18th) also took part in the competition.
For the boys, Josh Anderson finished in second behind Central Catholic's Nick Crouse. Anderson was followed by teammates Chris Lehman and Jon Hansel in third and fourth place, respectively. Richie Mumblo was unable to finish the competition.
Crouse and Anderson have developed somewhat of a rivalry as divers, with the two generally battling for the top two spots anytime that they go up against each other.
"Nick [Crouse] and I are really good friends and during our dual meet, he beat me on his last dive, so I was trying to beat him today, but it didn't happen," said Anderson, who struggled out of the gate, but rallied late in the competition. "I feel like I did pretty well, except for the first couple of dives on my list. It was tough to get warmed up, they were working well in the warm-ups and then just didn't work well in the meet."
In all, 29 divers from LVC schools competed in the competition, with each diver making 11 dives.
