Young anglers reel in the big winners

South Whitehall Township sponsored a free Youth Fishing Derby at Covered Bridge Park on April 22, Earth Day 2017.

Children and parents lined the banks of the Jordan Creek between the Wehr’s Mill and Manassas Guth covered bridges in search of the largest fish to be named a winner in one of four age-related categories.

The Jordan Creek was stocked with nearly 500 trout from the Lehigh County and Cedarbrook Co-op Nursery to provide an ample supply of fish for the catchin’.

Trixie’s Treats and Ruffin it Barbeque were on site with plenty of food to feed the hungry anglers.

Winners in the fishing derby are:

·0-4 Years Old (1st Place): Dominic Deluca, 1.70 lbs.; (2nd Place): Kahlee Wolfey, 1.63 lbs.

·5-8 Years Old (1st Place): Elizabeth Try, 2.16 lbs.; (2nd Place): Ibraheem Nawar, 1.84 lbs.

·9-12 Years Old (1st Place): Kale Kumernitsky, 3.26 lbs.; (2nd Place): Elayna Ashey, 1.66 lbs.

·13-15 Years Old (1st Place): Hunter Dolon, 2.22 lbs.; (2nd Place): Brianna Barten, 1.62 lbs.

Overall Largest Fish Winner was Kale Kumernitsky.
