Morgan, Dulaney selected for Carpenter Cup

Parkland High School softball players Kelly Dulaney and Chelsea Morgan have been named to the Lehigh Valley Carpenter Cup softball tournament team.

This is Chelsea Morgan’s second year on the team, but for Dulaney, it is her first.

“It’s a great opportunity to play with girls from the Lehigh Valley, and I thought it would be fun and I’m really excited,” said Dulaney. “[Try outs] were a little bit different because I think they all know our abilities and that we’re hard workers.”

The Carpenter Cup is a Philadelphia Phillies sponsored tournament, which will be played the week of June 19 at FDR Field in Philadelphia, featuring teams comprised of high school sophomores and juniors from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware.

Head coach Blake Morgan, an assistant at Parkland High School, is hoping to communicate three things to the Lehigh Valley players: team, community, and character.

“I think it’s important to give back,” said Coach Morgan. “These girls play softball all along the east coast, all over the country, and that’s great, but they started here. It’s nice to travel to Philadelphia and represent here.”

Also on the Lehigh Valley roster are Rachel Arner of Whitehall, Sky Esterly, Daphney Adams, Paige Hahn, and Krista Colussi of Nazareth, Jess Indelicato and Alexa Pannucio of Bethlehem Catholic, Alexis Ruth, Hannah Palinkas, and Maddy Clark of Emmaus, Heather Alich of Northampton, Dani Barnes of Southern Lehigh, and Courtney Grundhauser of Easton.

“I’m excited to make new friends and play some good competition. After the [high school] season ended, I think everyone is in a different mindset,” Dulaney said.

Assistant coaches are Ed Stinner, Ricky Sechler, Kyle Stinner, and Jim Haney.

Lehigh Valley’s first game is scheduled for June 19 at 11 a.m. against Jersey Shore.
