Parkland High School’s cheerleaders competed at the PIAA State Competitive Spirit Cheerleading Championships on Jan. 19-20 in Hershey.

The Trojans placed eighth in preliminaries, which put them in the semifinal round. They placed third in semifinals missing finals by one place.

“It was a pretty big accomplishment for us,” said Parkland coach Sami Jo Crivellaro. “They definitely performed better on Saturday, and they felt really good after they left the mat.”

The biggest difference between the Trojans’ two performances was execution.

“The girls were pretty happy. It’s a very good spot to be in for Nationals,” Crivellaro said.

The Trojans will compete at Nationals on Feb. 8 through Feb. 12 in Florida.

“There are a couple things we’re going to change, some difficulty things. We want to make sure we master them before we put them on the floor,” said Crivellaro. “The girls are really excited for Florida. For some girls, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We want to do well.”
