A 41-year-old Schuylkill County man has died eight days after his vehicle struck a tree and went down an embankment around 2 p.m. Feb. 7 in front of 1608 Independent Road, Weisenberg Township.

According to Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim, Christopher Angelo of Schuylkill Haven, was pronounced dead at 4:03 p.m. Feb. 15 at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.

An autopsy was performed Feb. 16, Grim said, adding the cause of Angelo’s death was attributed to multiple blunt force injuries.

He ruled the manner of his death an accident.

State Police Troop M, Fogelsville, say Angelo was driving a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter when it struck the tree on Independent Road, north of Kecks Road.

Angelo’s van came to a final rest off the east side of the roadway approximately 5 feet from the point of impact with the tree.

Angelo was extricated from the van by firefighters and transported by Cetronia Ambulance Corps to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.

Trexlertown and Weisenberg firefighters and Getz Service Station assisted at the scene.
