L.C. Conservation District needs volunteers in May

Thursday, April 5, 2018 by The Press in Local News

Lehigh County Conservation District is looking for volunteers with an interest in the environment for the 2018 Lehigh County Envirothon.

The high school event will take place May 1. The middle school event will take place May 3, both at Pool Life Sanctuary at Wildlands Conservancy, Emmaus.

Volunteers may assist either or both days. Help is needed from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Expertise in the topics is not required.

Senior high school students will culminate a year of environmental studies through tests administered May 1 in the areas of Forestry, Soil Science, Wildlife Biology, Aquatics, and “Pasture Management,” the topic of special interest for 2018.

The winners of the Lehigh County environmental education competition will participate in a statewide event at Susquehanna University on May 22 and 23.

Lehigh County middle school students will participate in hands-on demonstrations on the same topics on May 3.

Volunteers will staff learning stations, grade tests, and assist with general coordination.

To volunteer for the event or for more information, contact Jolie Chylack, environmental education and outreach coordinator at 610-391-9583, ext. 21, email
