PHS girls lax still unbeaten in EPC
The Parkland girls lacrosse team stayed unbeaten in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference play with a win over Freedom this week. The Trojans (8-3 overall, 6-0 EPC) also suffered a couple nonleague losses to some quality opponents from outside of District 11.
Abby Pope, Camryn Barnett and Maeve Leonzi combined for 13 goals in Tuesday’s 16-5 win over Freedom. Pope had five goals in the win. Barnett scored four goals and assisted on another, while Leonzi added four goals. Mackenzie Roth (goal, 3 assists), Emily Leiby (goal, assist), Abby Giacobbe (goal, assist) and Irene Lee also contributed to Trojan scores in the game.
Goalies Brie Barraco (3 saves) and Kenzie Galucy (7 saves) combined for 10 saves.
The win over Freedom came a day after Parkland lost 17-6 to Manheim Township, one of the state’s top 10 teams, according to MaxPreps rankings. Barnett scored four goals in the loss, while Roth added a pair of goals. Barraco (2 saves) and Galucy (4 saves) played in goal for Parkland
On Saturday, Parkland met up with the top team in the MaxPrep state rankings, District 1’s Garnet Valley. The Trojans had a 6-4 lead after the first half, but came up empty in the second half and overtime before falling 7-6.
Six Trojans scored a goal in the game, including Leiby, Jill Bushinksy, Leonzi, Roth, Pope and Barnett. Pope and Barnett also assisted on goals, while Giacobbe assisted on another. Barraco made nine saves in the game.
