James A. Maehrer, 84, of Slatington, died April 29, 2018, in his home.

He was the husband of the late Jeanette J. (Leibenguth) Maehrer.

Born Aug. 27, 1933, in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late August Maehrer and Margaret Jones.

He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War era earning the rank of corporal.

He was a cable splicer with Verizon in Allentown for 42 years before retiring in 1998.

His survivors include a daughter Donna S. Cope (James) of Slatington; grandchildren Jeffrey Maehrer Jr. (Amanda), Nicole Maehrer (John), Jenelle Maehrer (Michael), James Cope Jr. (Megan), and Christopher Cope; great-grandchildren Marisa Maehrer, Alexa Maehrer, Michael Torres Jr. and Daytona Christman.

He was predeceased by a son Jeffrey J. Maehrer.

A private service will be held in Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., Schnecksville.

There will be no calling hours. Interment at Union Cemetery of Slatington.
