Dr. Kenneth E. Benson, 89, of Fogelsville, died May 1, 2018, in Lehigh Center, Lower Macungie Township.

He was the husband of the late Florence S. (Henderson) Benson.

Born in Indianapolis, Ind., he was the son of the late C. Herbert and Beulah Faye (Roberts) Benson.

He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War era.

Earning a doctorate from Lehigh University, he was employed at Lucent Technologies as a solid-state materials scientist for 40 years before retiring in 1994.

He was an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Allentown.

His survivors include sons Kenneth E. Jr. and his wife, Barbara, with whom he resided; Dr. Craig H. and his wife, Karen, of Verona, Wis.; brother John W., of Lebanon, Ohio; grandsons Dr. Austin R. and his wife, Catherine, of Ithaca, N.Y., Kenneth E. III of Fogelsville; and loving companion, Carol Pavone, of Country Meadows of Allentown.

His memorial service will be 10 a.m. June 2 at Asbury United Methodist Church, 1533 Springhouse Road, Allentown, with the Rev. Eric S. Yeakel officiating.

Family and friends may pay their respects 9-10 a.m. Saturday before the service.
