1948 graduate of Lehighton High School

Gordon T. (Tom) Snyder, 87, of Lancaster, formerly of Lehighton, died July 5, 2018, in Hospice and Community Care, Lancaster.

He and his wife Emma E. (Wertman) Snyder shared 62 years of marriage.

Born Nov. 13, 1930, in Andreas, he was the son of the late Guy H. and Margaret U. (Kemmerer) Snyder.

A 1948 graduate of Lehighton High School, he worked in the telephone industry for 33 years.

He was certified in fleet management by the Wharton School, Philadelphia, and later retired from Contel (Continental Telephone Company) in 1991.

He was a charter member of the Mahoning Valley Fire Department, National Association of Fleet Administrators, the Lehigh Consistory Scottish Rite, and was a 60-year member of the Free and Accepted Masons Lodge No. 621, Lehighton.

Additionally, he served as a deacon of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Mahoning Valley, and an elder of Derry Presbyterian Church, Hershey, before becoming a member of Ben Salem UCC Church, Lehighton.

He loved music and played trombone in the Ben Salem Band.

He was known to family and friends as Tom.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by a son Bruce G. (Melanie) Snyder of Lancaster; daughter Ann, wife of Dr. Mark Pavilack, of Virginia Beach; grandchildren Eric and his wife, Christina, Hannah, Catherine, Sarah and Jon; great-grandson Weston David; brothers Willard A. (Lucille) Snyder of New Tripoli, and Luther D. (Lynn) Snyder of Jim Thorpe; sisters Phyllis S., wife of Rev. Wilbur Albright, of Macungie and Grace M., wife of Dale F. Snyder, of Walnutport.

He was predeceased by siblings, Hilbert G. Snyder and Marie E. Heim.
