Harriett H. Munson of Canton, N.Y., died on Nov. 3, 2018, in Phoebe nursing home, Allentown.

Born July 27, 1918, in Avon, Ill., she was a daughter of Edna (Case) and Madison Reece Hunter.

She attended grade school and high school in Avon.

A graduate of Knox College Conservatory of Music, Galesburg, Ill., she was a member of the music and drama fraternity, Phi Beta, and the sorority Pi Beta Phi.

She married fellow student J. Kenneth Munson on Dec. 21, 1939, in Rochester, N.Y., where he was studying for his Master’s degree in musicology at the Eastman School of Music.

In 1941, the couple moved to Canton, where her husband served as chair of the music department at St. Lawrence University until his retirement in 1980.

In addition to raising four children, she held several positions, including organist at the Canton Presbyterian Church, church secretary for the Universalist Church, and departmental secretary at the Griffiths Arts Center of SLU.

She enjoyed attending concerts, reading, knitting, and travel, especially visits to her hometown of Avon, and family trips to North Carolina’s Outer Banks.

After her husband’s death in 1986, she continued to live in Canton and, in 1999, she moved to a new facility in Canton — Partridge Knoll Retirement Center.

In 2007, she moved to Allentown to live near her oldest daughter, Christina, and she resided there for the last 12 years.

Her survivors include children Christina Schmidt and her husband, Henry, of Allentown; Jane Ann Munson and her husband, Sydney Lavigne, of Concord, New Hampshire.; Sara Rhoten and her husband, Michael, of Westminster, Md.; and John Munson and his wife, Cathy, Munson-Klein, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
