VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

·Bethlehem Special Olympics needs additional basketball volunteers, age 14 and older Monday nights. Practices are from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Northeast Middle School. Volunteers must know the basics of basketball, commit to attending most practices and become Class A volunteer by completing a background check and online training.

·Forgotten Felines and Fidos Inc., Germansville, needs cat lovers to help clean food bowls, wash linens, clean litter boxes, etc., for about 150 felines at the shelter house and barn. Volunteer any time between 9 a.m. to noon Sunday through Saturday, including holidays.

·Gracedale Nursing Home, Nazareth, needs a volunteer piano player for Sunday church service 10-11 a.m. on the first Sunday each month beginning March 3. Services generally last an hour and are held in the chapel at Gracedale. Music is an important part of the church service and the residents are very appreciative of someone willing to share their talent.

·Lehigh Valley Health Network has several volunteer opportunities: LVH-17th and Chew streets needs friendly visitor/activity helper for the transitional skilled unit and friendly visitor for Fleming Memory Center; LVH-Muhlenberg: needs gift shop and radiology patient escort; LVH-Cedar Crest needs gift shop, volunteer office runner (errands/flowers), sterile processing, inpatient pharmacy, and No One Dies Alone; Bangor Health Center needs cancer/infusion support.

·Meals on Wheels of the Greater Lehigh Valley, Bethlehem, is looking for volunteers to deliver meals and/or grocery shop for homebound seniors and disabled individuals in the Lehigh Valley. Volunteers are needed 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Volunteers must use their own car.

·Pleasure of Your Company Therapy Dogs Inc., Kutztown, seeks volunteers with Therapy Dogs to visit residents at various nursing homes throughout the Lehigh Valley area. Therapy Dog teams must be registered PoYC tested teams.

·Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley, Bethlehem, is looking for volunteers to attend their LEAD Now program. This is a board service training program to introduce newcomers to nonprofit board service, provide helpful insights for current nonprofit board members and create a network of potential board candidates for nonprofits. LEAD Now is a six-part training program beginning on Feb. 7 in Allentown. Class details and registration may be found at volunteerlv.org/LEAD-Now. Registration is required and there is a fee to attend.
