Two Parkland wrestlers competed in last weekend’s PIAA Class 3A Northeast Regional Championships.

Seniors Cory Border and Kale Cummings both reached regionals after fifth-place finishes at districts a week before.

Border faced District 2’s second-place finisher in the first round, senior Shawn Henninger (30-8) of Dallas. Henninger earned a 3-1 sudden victory win then went on to wrestle in the 285-pound title bout where he lost by a tiebreaker.

Border bounced back in the consolation bracket. He beat Belmont Charters’ Daeshawn Ford (District 2 second place) by fall in his first consolation bout then pinned RJ Knott (Abington Heights) in the second round of consolations.

Needing a win to reach a place match, Border beat Nanticoke’s Shane Repasky (District 2 champ) 5-3 (TB2). After losing a consolation semifinal bout to by 2-1 sudden victory to Liberty’s Jaden Freeman, the District 11 champ, Broder dropped his fifth-place match by decision over Northampton’s Hunter Werkheiser, the District 11 runner-up.

Cummings lost his opening bout to Martin Luther King’s Jonathan Rogge, the District 12 runner-up, by a 12-7 decision. Cummings then suffered an 8-7 setback in his first consolation match.
