Alfred Ignatz Sauerzopf
Alfred Ignatz Sauerzopf, fondly known as “Fritz,” 86, husband of the late Angela M. Sauerzopf of Whitehall, died March 9, 2019, at Lakeview Community, Bloomingdale, Ill.
He and his late wife had been full-time residents of Whitehall since 1959 and were active parishioners at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Roman Catholic Church.
Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Ignatz and Anna (Billowitz) Sauerzopf.
His survivors include a sister, Louise Morris and her husband, David, of Lancaster; children Maria Byerly of Attleboro, Mass., Betina Cregg and her husband, Robert, of Glenview, Ill., Michael Sauerzopf and his wife, Naomi, of Houston, Texas, and Chris Sauerzopf of Kutztown; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his daughter Anita Sauerzopf.
A graduate of William Allen High School, he advanced to factory vice president at Dutch Maid Food Packing Company, his family-owned pasta manufacturing business.
He joined the U.S. Army in 1953, in Fort Belvoir, Va. and after his military service, he returned to his family business until it was acquired by Borden Foods.
He became a regional sales manager with Borden’s pasta division, which he thoroughly enjoyed.
After retirement, he was in constant engagement with local and global humanitarian organizations.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. April 8 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Roman Catholic Church, 618 Fullerton Ave., Whitehall, PA 18052. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
There will be visitation in the church lobby 10-10:50 a.m. before the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to St. Elizabeth’s Regional School, 433 Pershing Blvd., Whitehall, PA 18052.
