Bear sighting verified; chickens in high school unconfirmed

The Press was able to verify a black bear was spotted in the area of Parkland High School June 3 but a report of a recent senior prank involving chickens let loose in the high school remains unconfimed.

Cheryl Trewella, information officer with the Pennsylvania Game Commission, spoke with The Press June 4.

She said the agency was notified a bear was spotted in the area of the Jaindl Turkey Farm, North Whitehall.

According to the South Whitehall Township police blotter, the bear was seen around 9:15 a.m. in the area of Coffeetown and Orefield roads.

Police ask public's help to ID bank robber

Upper Macungie Township police are asking for the public's help in identifying a bank robber.

The bank robbery occurred 1:15 p.m. Nov. 19 at the Bank of America, 7720 Main St., Fogelsville.

The bank robber is a white male, 30 to 40 years old.

He was wearing an OD green (or dark colored) field jacket over a bright blue shirt, blue jeans and a white baseball cap with "Polo Sport Athletics" written on the front.

He was last seen with a single strap dark-colored satchel over his shoulder.

Former South Whitehall police officer, wife charged with embezzlement of $854,497

Charges had been filed against a former South Whitehall Township employee and her husband, a former township police officer, who allegedly conspired to embezzle $854,497 from the utilities account of the South Whitehall Finance Department between 1999 and June 2012.

Valley emergency crews respond to Dorney Park for emergency drill

Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom and South Whitehall Township partnered with numerous Lehigh County emergency responders May 13 for a mass casualty emergency prepareness drill inside the park.

The drill, sponsored by the Northeast Pennsylvania Regional Counter Terrorism Task Force, was conducted and evaluated by Strategic Crisis Solutions, East Stroudsburg.
