Taste tempting treats offered at Rotary fundraiser

Guests attending the Allentown West Rotary Club’s fundraiser at the Holiday Inn and Conference Center, Breinigsville, were treated to a taste tempting evening of food, food and more food.

All proceeds collected, approximately $30,000, during the third annual Tempting Tastes smorgasbord, support the Rotary Club’s postsecondary scholarship opportunities and humanitarian programs.

About 250 guests attended the April 23 event, sampling different dishes from 20 local restaurants and caterers.

Envisioning candle, flower helps preschoolers learn at LCCC center

The Early Learning Center preschool at Lehigh Carbon Community College, Schnecksville, recently gave parents and their children, ages 3 to 5, a chance to experience the college’s “Mindful Me Program.”

The 10 families toured the ELC classroom on March 2 and participated in some “Mindful” exercises designed to create self-awareness in young children.

The year is 1922 and Millie’s plan is to find a job as a secretary for a rich man and then marry him.

A series of adventures that include getting mugged, staying at a hotel operated by a woman who kidnaps orphan girls, and working for a wealthy boss whose slow in proposing marriage foil her original plans.

Chef Beard’s soup takes home the gold at Rescue Mission challenge

Eight amateur and professional chefs recently took over cooking chores at the Allentown Rescue Mission.

The sous chefs were participating in the Lehigh Valley Business Group’s Health and Wellness Committee’s soup challenge on Feb. 25, making a variety of soups from fresh ingredients for 50 of the Mission’s residents.

“The chefs were instructed to try to think outside of the can and use their creative juices,” said Wellness Committee Co-chair Eva Poliquin. “Our goal is to help bridge the gap between the less fortunate and the outside community in a fun creative manner.
