Even as swimmers were competing for spots in districts at the recent Last Chance Meet held at Emmaus High School, more snow was falling outside, serving as a reminder of how much chaos Mother Nature has brought to the winter sports season.
Snow wiped out the final two practice days before the meet, but Parkland was able to see some progress among its swimmers and add to its list of candidates for spots in the District 11 championship meet, which is coming up on February 28-March 1 at Parkland.
With three championships being decided at the Zephyr Sports Complex in Whitehall last Thursday, Parkland was hoping to leave with gold medals in all three games. By the time the boys soccer team took to the field, the Trojans knew of the losses suffered by the field hockey and girls soccer teams and weren't about to let a third title slip away.
It didn't take long just 18 seconds for Parkland to get on the board when Byron Derti found himself in front of the net with a ball bouncing toward him.
