Allentown Band to perform May 26

The Allentown Band, America's oldest civilian concert band, under the direction of Conductor Ronald Demkee, will give a concert 7 p.m. May 26 at Springhouse Middle School, 1210 Springhouse Road, South Whitehall.

This event is sponsored by South Whitehall Township Recreation.

Hannah Rucker of Allentown has been named to the spring 2013 dean's list for academic achievements and achieving a semester grad point average of 3.5 or higher at Champlain College, Burlington, Vt.

Rucker is majoring in digital filmmaking.

She is the daughter of Ann Biernat-Rucker and Ronald Rucker.

Forgotten Felines and Fidos animal shelter is offering a vaccination clinic 8 a.m.-noon May 18, at 9645 Hamilton Blvd, Breinigsville.

Cats must be in carriers and dogs on leashes.

They will also be having adoptions and a fundraiser 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at Tractor Supply, 7150 Hamilton Blvd, Trexlertown.

The following local students were named to the spring 2013 semester dean's list at Lycoming College, Williamsport, Pa.

Fogelsville: Gabrielle Gaugler, a senior majoring in English;

New Tripoli: Amy Vaughn, a senior majoring in archaeology; and

Schnecksville:Ashley Gimbel, a senior majoring in biology and Laurie Gimbel, a senior majoring in psychology.

A student makes the dean's list if they complete at least 12 semester hours and earn a minimum grade point average of 3.50 for the semester.

District 1 commissioner candidates

Democrat Bill Leiner Jr. of Coplay and incumbent Republican Tom Creighton of Lynn Township are candidates for the District 3 seat on the Lehigh County Board of Commissioners.

The District 1 commissioner represents voters in the boroughs of Coplay and Slatington, and in Heidelberg, Lowhill, Lynn, North Whitehall, Washington, Weisenberg and Whitehall townships.
