Emmaus community shares sadness and grief

To the Editor:

The Emmaus community shares the sadness and grief triggered by the recent tragic house fire.

We support the Emmaus Fire Victims Funeral Fund in memory of the deceased victims. We extend to all the victims' families and friends, and the members of The Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit church community our sympathy and prayers of care and concern.

Robert E. Moyer III, 71, of Allentown, died March 26, 2013.

He and his wife Marcia (Clauser) Moyer celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary last May.

Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Anna (Rabenold) and Robert E. Moyer Jr.

He was a partner in Throw and Grow Seed Company, Trexlertown. from 1965 until the mid-70s.

Later, he was a real estate and sales consultant in the Allentown area for many years.

He had an extensive knowledge of Corvettes and antiques, and was known to frequent many of the diners in the area, making friends wherever he went.

Workshops set for April 6, 20

St. John's United Church of Christ in conjuction with Phoebe Home Services will be holding a series of dementia education workshops 10 a.m. April 6 and 20 and May 11 and 25 at 1027 Church St., Fogelsville.

There is a cost per session and each session will be on a different topic.

There is limited space available for 40 perople per session.

Registration for the event begins at 9:30 a.m.

Allentown Music Club will be presenting an ensemble program 3 p.m. April 7 at Hope United Church of Christ, 1031 Flexer Ave., Allentown.

Performers are Thomas Siemiatkoski, Barbara Martyska, Jane Ellen Knotnek, Vivian Golatz and Sally Hill.

Was a 'no' vote big government intrusion?

Five hundred years ago, Niccolo Machiavelli wrote a book titled "The Prince." One phrase from that text that remains a paradox today is "the end justifies the means."

In other words, an action can be justified by the intended outcome rather than the action itself.

On Wednesday, March 13, five members of the Lehigh County Board of Commissioners exercised the political equivalent of this maxim.

In doing so, they not only diminished the integrity of our office, but also increased the uncertainty of the future cost of water and wastewater treatment in Lehigh County.

South Whitehall police say an iPhone was reported stolen at 8:40 p.m. March 16 from a locker room at L.A. Fitness, 1515 Mauch Chunck Road, South Whitehall Township.

Teens cited for

Two juvenile females were cited for disorderly conduct 12:10 p.m. March 15 after engaging in a fight at Parkland High School, 2700 Cedar Crest Blvd., South Whitehall Township, police say.

CACLV offering tax help

The Community Action Committee of the Lehigh Valley has dozens of trained volunteers waiting to help lower-income taxpayers file their tax returns.

Taxpayers with household income less than $50,270 are eligible for CACLV's free tax preparation assistance.

The following is a list of the sites, with dates and times where CACLV volunteers can assist:

·Community Services for Children, 1520 Hanover Ave., Allentown. Open 4:30-8 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Spanish speaking interpreter will be available every Monday.
