Satori presents a concert, "East Meets West," 3 p.m. Feb. 10, Unitarian Universalist Church of the Lehigh Valley, 424 Center St., Bethlehem.

The program is: Carl Stamitz' "Trio in G Major," James Nyoruka Schlefer's "A Smile on the Buddha Calm," Minoru Mikki's "Sonnet" and Mendelsssohn's "Piano Trio in D minor, Op. 49." A meet-the-artist reception follows the performance.

Muhlenberg Summer Music Theatre (MSMT) holds open auditions for performers ages 16 and up Feb. 17 and 18 for the Gershwin musical, "Crazy for You," June 12 - 30, and Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's rock opera, "Jesus Christ Superstar," July 10 -28.


Crest to honor David Jaindl

David Jaindl, owner and president of Jaindl Farms, Jaindl Turkey Sales, Jaindl Land Company, and Schantz Orchards, all of Orefield, has been chosen to receive the 2013 Associates Award from the Associates of Cedar Crest College during the Associates Luncheon, noon March 6, Tompkins College Center.

Jaindl served on the Cedar Crest College Board of Trustees 2005 - '10. During his tenure, he participated in the transition from president Dorothy Gulbenkian Blaney to president Carmen Twillie Ambar.

Oscar brunch

Civic Theatre of Allentown celebrates the Academy Awards with "Brunch with Oscar" Sundays in February, showcasing four Oscar picture-winning films: "Cinema Paradiso" (Best Foreign Film 1989), "Casablanca" (Best Picture 1942), "Annie Hall" (Best Picture 1978) and "An American in Paris" (Best Picture 1952) at Civic's Theatre514, 514 N. 19th St., Allentown.

Films were selected through online and in-theater voting by Civic Theatre members and patrons.

Before the screenings, a light breakfast will be served, featuring foods that reflect the film to be shown.

Biodiversity Dawin lecture topic at Crest

Leslie Rissler, Ph.D., associate professor of biological sciences and curator of amphibians and reptiles at the University of Alabama, will address the topic, "Why Animals Live Where," when she delivers the 2013 Darwin Day Lecture at Cedar Crest College, 4 p.m. Feb. 9, Samuels Theatre, Tompkins College Center.

The talk is free and open to the public.

Houser lecture

Cedar Crest College alumna and oncology scientist Zainab Khalfan Jagani '99, Ph.D., will discuss "Solving the Genetic Mysteries of Cancer: A Path Towards Discovery and Application of Novel Cancer Therapeutics," when she delivers the Naomi Houser Lecture, 4 p.m. Feb. 6, Room 1, Oberkotter Center for Health and Wellness.

The lecture is free and open to the public.

WDIY benefit promises a 'Winter Blast'

WDIY, Lehigh Valley's community public radio station is holding its annual fundraising party, this year themed "Winter Blast," 7 - 11 p.m. Feb. 2, Rodale Community Room, Miller Symphony Hall, Allentown.

"It's going to be a great party, as usual," said Bill Dautremont-Smith, Executive Director of the local NPR station. "There will be lots of food, complimentary beer and wine and, of course, music."

Entertainment is provided by the dance band, Lehigh Valley Soul Project, and Yancarlos Sanchez.
