Presentation on music

Institute for Jewish-Christian Understanding will be hosting speaker Diane Wittry, musical director and conductor for the Allentown Symphony, at a luncheon discussion "Making Beautiful Music" noon-1 p.m. April 5 in Seegers Union, Room 111 and 112 at Muhlenberg College, 2400 Chew St., Allentown.

This discussion is free and open to the public.

Bring lunch or buy lunch at Seegers Union.

'Tom Sawyer' on April 25-27

Players of the Stage will be performing "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" by Mark Twain at 7 p.m. April 25, 26 and 27 and 2 p.m. April 27 at Living Hope Orthodox Presbyterian Church, 330 Schantz Road, Lower Macungie.

The show was adapted for stage and is being directed by Sharon Barshinger Gerdes.

Tickets are free but reservations are required.

CACLV offering tax help

The Community Action Committee of the Lehigh Valley has dozens of trained volunteers waiting to help lower-income taxpayers file their tax returns.

Taxpayers with household income less than $50,270 are eligible for CACLV's free tax preparation assistance.

The following is a list of the sites, with dates and times where CACLV volunteers can assist:

·Community Services for Children, 1520 Hanover Ave., Allentown. Open 4:30-8 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Spanish speaking interpreter will be available every Monday.

NYC trip on April 13

Heintzelman Funeral Home, 326 Main St., Hellertown will be hosting a trip 10 a.m. April 13 to see the musical "Annie" at the Palace Theater, 1564 Broadway, New York, N.Y.

Per person cost includes motorcoach, free time in the city, reserved seating for "Annie," land and sea buffet at Snuffy's and driver gratuity.

Payment is due when reservations are made.

Proceeds benefit the 2013 Saucon Valley Spirit parade.

Group to meet on April 2

The Civil War Round Table of Eastern Pennsylvania will be hosting historian and re-enactor Dick Simpson April 2 at Day's Inn, 3400 Airport Road, Allentown.

He will be discussing "Vermont Brigade at Gettysburg."

Dinner will be 6:30 p.m. Program at 7:30 p.m.

Reservations are required for the dinner and must be made by March 28.

There is a fee for both the dinner and program.

Basket bingo April 21

Forgotten Felines and Fidos animal shelter, Germansville will be holding a brand-named basket bingo April 21 at Lower Macungie Community Center, 3450 Brookside Road, Macungie.

Doors open at 11:30 a.m.; bingo starts at 1 p.m.

There will be a Chinese auction, 50-50 and door prizes.

Bring a cat or dog food donation and be entered in a special basket drawing.

Food and refreshments were be available.

Food will be from Kasey Lynn Caterers from the Meadows in Hellertown.

Conference set for April 12

Penn State Extension is sponsoring an Entrepreneurial Communities; Increasing Regional Prosperity through Entrepreneurism, all-day conference April 12, at the Fowler Center, South Bethlehem.

Dr. Michael Fortunato, research associate and lecturer at Penn State University, is the speaker.

His topic is "Improving Entrepreneur's Success: What is Working in Communities?"

Panelists include Matt Tuerk and Anthony Durante, both of Allentown; Ellen Larmer, Upper Milford Township; and Sharon Davis, Upper Mount Bethel Township.

Workshops set for April 6, 20

St. John's United Church of Christ in conjuction with Phoebe Home Services will be holding a series of dementia education workshops 10 a.m. April 6 and 20 and May 11 and 25 at 1027 Church St., Fogelsville.

There is a cost per session and each session will be on a different topic.

There is limited space available for 40 perople per session.
