Cook happy on the road again

David Cook, winner of the seventh season of "American Idol" who performs in concert, 8 p.m. Oct. 24, Musikfest Cafe, ArtsQuest Center, SteelStacks, 101 Founders Way, Bethlehem, is in a performance groove.

"It's exciting," says Cook in a recent phone interview. "It's an opportunity to get on the road. It's nice because I'm more comfortable now that I'm settled in than when I was competing on the show."

Mummies dearest at Musikfest

Here Come The Mummies (HCTM), one of most incognito bands in rock, performs at 9:30 p.m. Aug. 9, Americaplatz, Musikfest.

Get ready to rock like an Egyptian because these performers are no joke, although they're antics are far from lifeless.

The sound of their music is surprisingly uplifting and Java Mummy, vocals and percussion, explains it to a T when he says in a recent phone interview, "We are mummies full of life and libido. Our music is a celebration of that."

Vagabond Opera at Musikfest

The Vagabond Opera returns to the Lehigh Valley region with performances at 6 and 7:30 p.m. Aug. 2 and noon Aug. 3 on the Volksplatz stage at Musikfest, Bethlehem.

The Vagabond Opera is at the center of the neo-cabaret phenomenon. The Washington Post described the group as "a band of ceaseless charisma, boundless energy, impeccable musicianship and more than a little touch of both the naughty and exotic."

A 'Les Miz' to remember at Notre Dame

Notre Dame Summer Theatre (NDST) Director Rody Gilkeson has done a remarkable job with the Lehigh Valley debut of the Broadway version of "Les Miserables," through Aug. 3, Notre Dame High School, Bethlehem Township.

The NDST production has a huge cast of 52 and, on opening night, July 26, before what appeared to be a near sell-out audience, each member of the cast really put their heart and soul into each song and every scene.

Lehigh Valley debut of 'Les Miserables' rises up at Notre Dame Summer Theatre

Notre Dame Summer Theatre is presenting the Lehigh Valley debut of the Broadway musical version of "Les Misérables."

The musical is based on the 1862 novel written by French author Victor Hugo. There've been four film adaptations, including the Oscar-winning 2012 musical version.

Now in its fourth season, Notre Dame Summer Theatre (NDST) presents "Les Misérables," 7:30 p.m. July 26, 27, Aug. 2, 3 and 2 p.m. July 28 and Aug. 3, auditorium, Notre Dame High School, 3417 Church Road, Easton.

Video games take the stage in concert

"Video Games Live," a concert featuring music from the most popular video games of all time, will be performed at 7:30 p.m. July 14, Miller Symphony Hall, 23 N. Sixth St, Allentown.

The show, with a 30-date tour that includes stops in Shanghai and Beijing, China, and the first Middle East video concert in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, began June 27, and was created and is produced by Tommy Tallarico, who hails from Springfield, Mass.

Tallarico, on guitar, will accompany the Allentown Symphony Orchestra, Concord Chamber Singers and soloists.

Honey NOLA sound

The members of the Honey Island Swamp Band, who hail from New Orleans, found themselves stuck in San Francisco following Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

So, they formed a band, dubbed it Honey Island Swamp Band, eventually working their way back in 2007 to New Orleans, where the group gathered local recognition.

The Honey Island Swamp Band, whose music is described as Bayou Americana, performs at 9:30 p.m. July 6 and 6 p.m. July 7 at the Jambalaya Music Festival, Kempton Community and Recreation Center, Kempton, Berks County.

THEATER REVIEW 'Seussical' a delight for all

The cast of "Seussical, the Dr. Seuss Musical!," performs with great enthusiasm in a show that's a delight for children and adults alike.

"Seussical" continues through July 27, Studio Theatre, Trexler Pavilion for Theatre and Dance, Muhlenberg College, 2400 Chew St., Allentown, as part of the 33rd season of Muhlenberg Summer Music Theatre.

With the singing, dancing and rhyming, it's almost as if Dr. Seuss directed the play himself. In fact, the play was directed by Benjamin Shaw.
