Find out if you have unclaimed property

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania currently holds more than $2.1 billion in unclaimed property in its possession.

I'd like to see those assets returned to their rightful owners, and, perhaps, one of those owners is you.

Last year, $111 million in unclaimed property was returned, according to the Pennsylvania Treasury Department, which administers the program.

Volunteer fire companies are vital to Pa. communities

Because volunteer fire companies play a vital role in communities across Pennsylvania and deserve support in their efforts to combine resources to better serve their residents, I was pleased my legislation, House Bill 465, recently passed unanimously in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

This bill, if enacted, would exempt them from realty transfer taxes as defined under Act 2 of 1971, known as the Tax Reform Code.

House aims to tackle key legislative goals in Pennsylvania during 2013-14

The Pennsylvania House achieved many important legislative goals last session, such as promoting more job growth across Pennsylvania and investing more money in public education.

However, the state still faces many challenges and some of the most pressing issues remain unresolved.

With the 2013-14 session now under way, it is time for us to start tackling these issues.
