Preparations made for future Upper Mac Police Department

One of the biggest questions regarding the new Upper Macungie Police Department was answered at the July 30 supervisors meeting.

Chief Edgardo Colon reported his management team has concluded interviews with officers currently part of the Berks-Lehigh Regional Police Department.

He also sought authorization to set the size of the department at 30 officers, including three, himself and the two lieutenants, already hired.

Supervisor Sam Ashmar said the original recommendation was for a force of 28 to 32 officers.

Board OKs corps building

South Whitehall commissioners granted approval July 18 to a pair of resolutions allowing Cetronia Ambulance Corps to construct its Joint Operations Facility.

First, commissioners voted to allow subdivision of a 96.4005-acre property owned by Lehigh County at 4200 Broadway.

Lot one is comprised of nine acres at the southwest quadrant of the Parkway Road and Broadway intersection. Lot two encompases 87.4005 acres designated as the residual tract.
