Fundraising continues for new library in Upper Macungie Twp.

Since the kickoff of its capital campaign in June 2011, Parkland Community Library has been actively fundraising in many ways. The last phase of the fundraising is in full swing.

If you are a business owner, employer or just someone who would like to help them make the new library a reality, contact Debbie Jack at 610-398-1361 ext .22.

A volunteer will schedule a visit with you to explain details about the new facility and the ways to help.

'Suspicious individual' is student preparing to enter the military

A lockdown at Parkland High School Sept. 14 could have led students, parents and administrators into panic mode; however, extensive emergency training helped ensure calm while a suspicious incident was investigated.

Around 4:45 p.m. that Friday, a teacher noticed an individual dressed in camouflage running up to the flagpole at the high school, saluting, saying a prayer and running toward the building.

Following proper procedure, the teacher called the 911 communications center with her suspicions.

Sigmund Levin, 81, a longtime resident of Allentown, died peacefully Sept. 8, 2012, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.

Born in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Oscar and Mary (Siegal) Levin.

He and his wife Mary (Sadler) Levin were married Nov. 19, 1974.

An owner of Gentry Men's Clothing Shop, he was an avid investment banker throughout his life time.

He loved watching the Philadelphia Phillies, Eagles and Sixers but, most of all, he was a wonderful husband, father and friend to all who were around him.

5K Fun Run/Walk fundraiser takes off Oct. 7 in Upper Mac

Upper Macungie Supervisor Kathy Rader has announced adult volleyball will be offered Tuesday nights now through Feb. 26, 2013, in the Fogelsville Elementary School gym.

All ability levels are welcome and no pre-registration is required.

The 5K Fun Run/Walk for Parks will take place Oct. 7 at Lone Lane Park. The run/walk will be from Lone Lane Park to Grange Park and back.

All proceeds will go to the parks and recreation fund.

pastor of Faith Wesleyan Church

The Rev. David P. Zeravsky, 52, of Orefield, died Sept. 8, 2012, in his home.

Born May 15, 1960, in Memphis, Tenn., he was the son of Dorothy (Bickert) Smell of Northampton. His father is Richard Boehm of Lady Lake, Fla.

He was predeceased by his dad, Paul Zeravsky, and his stepfather, Robert Smell.

He and his wife of 26 years, Lorri L. (Dettmer) Zeravsky, were married June 14, 1986.

He served the Lord as pastor of Faith Wesleyan Church, Orefield, and was the former pastor of Neptune Wesleyan Church, Neptune, N.J.
