Charlie Dent retains seat in 15th District

Much like Superstorm Sandy, several elements came together to give Charlie Dent an easy path to re-election as the U.S. Representative from the 15th Congressional District of Pennsylvania.

The popular Republican had the advantage of incumbency heading into the election.

First elected in 2004, Dent has held onto his seat in Congress with wide margins in recent years.

Fire company fundraiser to aid volunteer

Good Will Fire Company, Trexlertown, is having a benefit breakfast to help one of its own.

Linda Slifer, 57, who lives in Upper Macungie Township, suffered a grade five subarachnoid hemorrhage from a brain aneurysm on July 15, her daughter Dana Miller told The Press.

Hurricane Sandy claims second Parkland life

Hurricane Sandy claimed another life in the Parkland area, according to Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim.

Luther Fritzinger, 93, of 1063 Mosser Road, in the Autumn Park complex, Upper Macungie Township, was found dead in his garage on Nov. 1, Grim said.

The coroner ruled Fritzinger died of hypo-thermia following prolonged exposure to the cold following power outages associated with Hurricane Sandy.

Parkland School Board member Roberta Marcus received the Timothy M. Allwein Advocacy Award recently at a state level school leadership conference in Hershey.

Given by the Pa. School Boards Association, the award is presented annually to an individual or an entire school board in recognition of leadership in legislative advocacy on behalf of public education.
