Herbstfest

Everyone is invited to welcome fall at the Herbstfest (fall festival) 2-6 p.m. Oct. 6 at Schnecksville Fire Hall, 4550 Old Packhouse Road, Schnecksville. Doors open at 2 p.m.

A German-style light lunch will be served from 2-3 p.m. and there will be music, dancing and entertainment with Joe Kroboth from 3-6 p.m.

South Whitehall planners table Ridge Farm conditional approval

After several hours of comments from Ridge Farm development representatives and the public, the South Whitehall planning commission voted to table the request from Kay Builders for conditional approval.

“We haven’t seen data about rush hour and other things we usually see in a traffic impact study,” Planner Bob Bielecki stated. “Conditional approval will have to wait until that’s done.”

Parkland, Freedom students are helping kids with cancer

Parkland and Freedom high schools are coming together for a yearlong fundraiser to benefit the Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley.

Throughout the year at various sporting events, both schools will sell gold T-shirts — featuring school logos — and encourage students to create a Gold Out at different games and matches.

The first event was a Parkland/Freedom football game Sept. 6 at Orefield Middle School.

Allentown Library

The Allentown Public Library, 1210 Hamilton St., Allentown, is hosting a used book sale on Oct. 17-19.

The hours are: Thursday 11 a.m.-7 p.m.; Friday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

There will be a large assortment of used books on all topics to choose from at the sale.

It’s a great bargain and all proceeds benefit the library.

Berks County man charged with sexual assault at KidsPeace

Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin has announced that a Berks County man was charged with committing institutional sexual assault for an alleged incident at KidsPeace in North Whitehall.

Kharee Javon Greene, 23, of 204. S. Kemp St., Lyons Station, Berks County, a former KidsPeace employee, has been charged with one count of institutional sexual assault, a felony of the third degree.

Spaghetti dinner on Oct. 12

The Allentown Rescue Mission will host its 17th annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser 4-7:30 p.m. Oct. 12 at Asbury United Methodist Church, 1533 Springhouse Road, South Whitehall Township.

People are needed to help support the mission and there are many ways to get involved.

WAEB, AM 790, will be hosting a radiothon 5:30-10 a.m. Oct. 2-4, 7 and 11.

Ridge Farm concerns residents

South Whitehall residents filled Springhouse Middle School’s auditorium Sept. 16 as representatives of Ridge Farm presented their latest request to the planning commission for conditional approval.

Developer Kay Builders submitted its original conditional use application in April 2017 and has had several public meetings since then in which residents expressed disapproval.
