Harry L. Donat, 96, of Country Meadows, Allentown, died June 13, 2019, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.
He and his wife, Olga (Osifchin) Donat, would have celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary in August.
Born in Macungie, he was a son of the late Rev. Harry J. and Ida (White) Donat.
A graduate of Slatington High School, he was a World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Army from July 1943 until April 1946.
He served as an Army airways communication system cryptographer in the China-Burma-India Theater.
James R. Hite Sr., 78, of South Whitehall Township, died peacefully June 6, 2019, at home.
He and his wife, Monica (Dudding) Hite were married 58 years.
He was the proud father of Carol, James Jr., David and Brian; grandparent of Monica, Zachary, Chelsea, Dylon, Jessica, Maxwell and Jared; and great-grandparent of Skyla, and soon to be Sean.
The son of the late Raymond and Edna (Green) Hite, he was the brother of Clarence, Robert and Nancy.
He was predeceased by siblings Bernice, Raymond, Judith, Kathleen and Richard.
The world has lost a great man! Larry A. Williams, 62, of Palm Coast, Fla., formerly of Slatington, took his final bow June 24, 2019, after a long and hard fought battle with cancer.
He and his wife, Theresa M. (Kocher) Williams, were married 11 years.
Born March 9, 1957, in Slatedale, he was the son of the late Betty Mae (Williams) Fenstermaker.
He always held the Northern Lehigh Community near and dear to his heart.
If there were an organization in need or an event coming up, he was playing a role in its success either as organizer, leader or participant.
Joyce D. (Roth) Kuntz, 77, of Slatington, died Wednesday, June 19, 2019 in her home.
She and her husband Warren S. Kuntz were married 56 years on June 16.
Born Aug. 23, 1941, in Washington Township, she was the daughter of the late Claude W. and Florence R. (Zellner) Roth.
She owned and operated Joyce’s Beauty Salon in her home for 40 years before retiring in 2010.
Before that, she was a key punch operator at the former Keystone Lamp Factory, Slatington.
She was a member of Union United Church of Christ, Neffs, and the former Washington Grange 1763.
Betty A. (Bloss) Laubach, 85, formerly of Allentown and Slatington, died June 23, 2019, in Cedarbrook Senior Care and Rehabilitation, South Whitehall Township surrounded by her loving family.
She was the wife of the late Louis L. Laubach.
Born Feb. 20, 1934, in Walnutport, she was the daughter of the late Joel R. Bloss and Helen B. (Rice) Bloss Konek.
She was co-Owner and founder of Keystone Answering Service, Allentown, from 1972-04.
Betty G. Buehrle, 90, of Allentown, died June 15, 2019, in Luther Crest retirement community, South Whitehall Township.
She and her husband, the Rev. Dr. Paul L. Buehrle, were married 68 years.
Born in Perkasie, Bucks County, she was a daughter of the late Russell T. and Irma (Snyder) Gulden.
She was a member of The Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit, Emmaus.
A licensed beautician, she operated the former Betty’s Hairdressing Salon, Wilmington, Del.
She was a talented seamstress, dedicated volunteer and loving wife and mother.
Stephen M. Mercatili, 50, of Orefield, died June 12, 2019, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.
He and his wife Margaret L. (Castronova) Mercatili were married 16 years.
Born Sept. 5, 1968, in Goshen, Orange County, N.Y., he was the son of Julia E. (Nardi) Mercatili of Warwick, N.Y. and the late Peter D. Mercatili Sr.
He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Orefield.
Roy E. Trone, 82, of Slatington, died June 15, 2019, in his home.
He was the husband of Markie F. (Snyder) Trone.
Born on July 23, 1936, in Freemansburg, Northampton County, he was the son of the late Roy R. Trone and Jessica N. (Ruth) Beaber.
He was a truck driver for National Van Lines for 16 years before retiring in 2003.
Before that, he was a sales representative at the former Mueller Chevrolet, Slatington, for 25 years.
Joan L. Rice, 87, a longtime resident of Fullerton, Whitehall Township, died peacefully at home June 16, 2019, with her loving and dedicated family by her side.
She was the wife of Ethan “Budd” Rice for almost 65 years.
Raised in East Mauch Chunk, now Jim Thorpe, she was a daughter of the late Carl and Dorothea (Millhouse) Schlecht.
A very dedicated member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Whitehall, she enjoyed being a part of Bible Study, the book discussion group, the Vicar Committee, and the Jean Emanuel Scholarship Committee.
Frances E. Clare, 83, of New Tripoli, formerly of Bethlehem, died June 13, 2019, in her home.
She and her husband, David G. Clare, celebrated 63 years of marriage in April.
Born in Bethlehem, she was a daughter of the late Arthur T. and Lillie (Newhard) Lucas.
A 1954 graduate of Liberty High School, Bethlehem, she was a housewife, as well as, a hard worker on the family dairy farm.
She was a member of the Pennsylvania Farm Association and the Lynnport Fire Company.
During the early 1970s, she was a Cub Scout Den Mother in Bethlehem.
