Estelle L. (Markowitz) Parkinson, 88, of Allentown, died June 29, 2019, at the home of her family in Lehighton after a yearlong struggle from a stroke.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Deborah and her husband Edward “Joe” Kudla III; granddaughter Dena and husband, Reynold, and great-grandson Hayden Gabel of New Tripoli; grandson Zachary Kudla of Lehighton and Faustena Keesecker of West Virginia and family.
She is also survived by her brother William Markovitz and his wife; five nieces, four nephews and their families.
David J. Correll, 69, of Saylorsburg, died June 30, 2019, in St. Luke’s Hospital, Monroe Campus.
He and his wife, Shirley M. (Peiffer) Correll, were married nine years last September.
A son of the late John H. and Laurene M. (Scherer) Correll, he worked in the maintenance department of the Allentown Post Office for 20 years.
He was a member of Jordan Lutheran Church, Orefield.
Having honorably served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, he was a member of the American Legion and the Kunkletown Rod and Gun Club.
Mary Angela “Mitzi” Sweeney, 89, died peacefully July 5, 2019, at home.
Born Jan. 13, 1930 in Northampton, she was the daughter of the late Josef and Gisela Trinkl.
She lived a life filled with adventure, spending her youth in Pirching, Austria, and surviving the difficult wartime years.
Boarding a ship to America alone at 16, she settled in Allentown, fell in love and raised her family, traveling between her two homelands over the years.
Jennie A. “Jean” Centolanza, 88, died July 5, 2019, in Cedarbrook Senior Care and Rehabilitation, South Whitehall.
She and her husband, Ralph A. Centolanza, were married 55 years at the time of his death in 2010.
Born in Elizabeth, N.J., she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Drogon) Mularz.
She always loved her family fiercely.
Known for her outstanding style and decorating, she always enjoyed playing bingo with her friends.
Martin C.A. Aardewijn, 60, of Heidelberg Township, died July 3, 2019.
He and his wife, Debra C. (Hill) Aardewijn, were married 34 years last March.
Born March 21, 1959, in the Netherlands, he was the son of the late Franciscus and Sietske (De Koning) Aardewijn.
He was a district sales manager for an awning manufacturer.
Having grown up in the beautiful country of Holland, surrounded by water, he developed a passion for boats and spent memorable hours with his family on the water.
Carl Ray Madtes, 83, of Slatington, died July 4, 2019.
He was lovingly cared for by his wife, Arline May (Zettlemoyer) Madtes, at home until his death.
Born March 3, 1936, in Kutztown, he was the son of the late Clayton H. and M. Evelyn (Snyder) Madtes.
A graduate of Slatington High School, Kutztown University and Lehigh University, he received a Bachelor of Science degree in education and Master’s degree in counseling, respectively.
He retired from the Parkland School District as an elementary guidance counselor in 1989.
Joseph R. Sommer, 61, of Whitehall, died July 3, 2019, surrounded by his loving family in his home.
He and his wife Jean (Sharkazy) Sommer, celebrated 28 years of marriage in October 2018.
Born in Allentown, he was the son of Joseph G. and Patricia (Betz) Sommer, of Coplay.
A 1975 graduate of Whitehall High School, he then went on to graduate from Muhlenberg College, and later earn his Master in Business Administration degree from DeSales University.
He was a general manager for Carpenter Company, Fogelsville, for 16 years.
Brad T. Correll, 62, of Allentown, died July 2, 2019, at his home.
Born July 30, 1956, in Allentown, he was the son of the late Earl R. and Dorothy M. (Best) Correll.
He was a self-employed electrician in California for many years before retiring.
His survivors include a sister Sharon K. Kendig and her husband, Ricky, of Palmerton; and brother Bruce S. Correll of Weatherly.
He was predeceased by brothers Larry J. and Brian Lee Correll.

James E. Phillips, 70, of New Tripoli, died June 22, 2019, in Lehigh Valley Hospital.
Born March 13, 1949, in Somerville, N.J., he was the son of Elizabeth (Eick) Phillips of Wernersville and the late Orville Phillips.
He was a graduate of Hunterdon Central Regional High School, he was a dairy farmer most of his life.
He loved all animals but especially his cows.
For the last 10 years, he worked at Tractor Supply Company.
Renee L. Miller, 69, from New Tripoli, died June 29, 2019, at home.
She and her husband Gerald R. Miller were married 50 years in May.
Born in Allentown, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth B. and Ruth B. (Haas) Folck.
An administrative assistant for 35 years at Ziegels Lutheran Church, Breinigsville, she was also a member, served on the social services and evangelism committees, taught confirmation class for the Sunday School, and served the church council as the financial secretary for many years.
