Boys erase 5-goal deficit, beat Easton 10-8

Thursday, May 15, 2014 by CJ HEMERLY Special to the Press in HS Sports

Head coach Brad Schifko has said it before, and it's not something he wants to have to repeat. When his Parkland boys lacrosse team was trailing 6-1 at halftime, Schifko explained to his team that hard work beats talent every time.

Easton, the team on the other sideline with the lead, had beaten the Trojans in the regular season, giving Parkland its only Lehigh Valley Conference loss. So, there was a little bit of anxiety.

After those words, his Schifko's team responded,...

Thursday, May 15, 2014 by TYLER TRUMABUER Special to the Press in HS Sports

The Parkland Trojan boys track team won the 2014 Lehigh Valley Conference track and field meet championship.

It was due in large part to the efforts of Derek Ziegenfuss, Stephen Laird and Nicholas Hassler in boys javelin.

That trio of Trojans swept the medal stand at last week's LVC track and field meet, held at the Zephyr Sports Complex at Whitehall High School. Parkland's Ryan Hunt finished fifth in the event as the group collectively earned 33 points for its squad and...

Volleyball team seeks second straight LVC title

Thursday, May 15, 2014 by PETER CAR in HS Sports

Scott Trumbauer knows that every team that takes the court against Parkland is going to give everything it has.

That's why the Trojans need their own wake-up calls sometimes.

Parkland landed a spot in yesterday's LVC volleyball finals, but needed to get over a game-one hurdle against Easton during Monday's semifinals to win in four games, 23-25, 25-20, 25-16, 25-20.

The Trojans met Northampton in last Thursday's championship, but game was played after Press deadline....

LVC baseball playoff picture begins to clear

Thursday, May 8, 2014 by CHUCK HIXSON Special to the Press in HS Sports

The playoff picture in the Lehigh Valley Conference is clearing up and Parkland took a big step toward clinching its place in the postseason with a 4-0 win over Northampton on Tuesday.

The win leaves only a remote possibility that the Trojans (10-3, 14-5) could be knocked out of the playoffs. For that to happen, they would have to lose their final game against Nazareth (2-10, 5-12), Whitehall (10-3, 14-4) would have to win their final game at Northampton (7-6, 10-9), Liberty would...

Girls lax goes 10-0 in LVC

Thursday, May 8, 2014 by TODD KRESS in HS Sports

Last week's game against rival Emmaus figured to be Parkland's lone remaining threat keeping them from an undefeated Lehigh Valley Conference girls lacrosse season.

It turns out that threat wasn't much of one when all was said and done.

The Lady Trojans (14-3 overall; 10-0 in LVC) took a quick 4-0 lead and handled the Lady Hornets (10-8 overall; 7-3 in LVC), 13-6, last Thursday at Troxell Middle School.

"We knew coming in that it was going to be a tough game because we...

Thursday, May 8, 2014 by CJ HEMERLY Special to the Pres in HS Sports

Heading into the final quarter of an important Lehigh Valley Conference boys lacrosse game last Friday afternoon, the Parkland Trojans led by just a goal, 5-4. But Parkland had more possessions and took advantage of them, tallying three goals and outscoring Emmaus 3-1 to win the contest 8-5 and secure the number one overall seed in the conference tournament which begins Thursday. The Trojans will face number four seed Nazareth in the LVC semifinals. They came out on top 20-4 in the only...

Seniors look to take final step

Thursday, May 8, 2014 by TODD KRESS in HS Sports

For as much success as this senior group of Lady Trojan lacrosse players has endured over their careers, they've yet to win the a district title.

But every year, they've made strides amongst Lehigh Valley Conference and District 11 competition.

The Lady Trojans have grown from a team that was bounced from the semifinals in leagues and districts in 2011, to a team that won leagues and was a win away from a district championship in 2013.

This year, they have their eyes set...

Trojans reach doubles semi

Thursday, May 8, 2014 by CHUCK HIXSON Special to the Press in HS Sports

No matter what the sport, fans, players and coaches always take a glance at the brackets and look for the best matchups later in the tournament. Looking at the District 11 doubles bracket, there was one potential match that loomed large. It was a potential semifinal match between Pleasant Valley and Parkland.

The Pleasant Valley duo of Jon White and John Walmach came in as the number two seed and Parkland's Nick Kshatri and Pete Harrison were the tournament's three seed. Both duos...

Track teams end successful season

Thursday, May 8, 2014 by TYLER TRUMBAUER Special to the Press in HS Sports

Head coach Scott Levan was uncertain as to how his track and field team would fare this season with the lack of proper preparation they had due to the weather.

Somehow, someway, despite the obstacles, Levan, who is in his 30th year piloting the Trojan track team, led his boys team to a perfect 9-0 record, which earned it the Lehigh Valley Conference dual-meet championship, while the girls completed an outstanding 8-1 season.

"I thought this season was going to be a little iffy...

PHS baseball positions for playoffs

Thursday, May 1, 2014 by CHUCK HIXSON Special to the Press in HS Sports

There is no denying that the Parkland baseball team is in a tough division.

The Lehigh Valley Conference North has three of the four teams vying for the top spot in the division and it's getting to the time of year when one of those teams needs to show they're better than the rest.

The Trojans (7-2, 11-4) currently stand a half game behind Whitehall (8-2, 12-2) in the division and are a game and a half ahead of Northampton (6-4, 9-6).

Parkland, which already has...
