Seven Trojans sign letters of intent

Thursday, April 24, 2014 by TODD KRESS in HS Sports

During this year's college sports seasons, Parkland saw a number of alumni put together standout campaigns.

Boston College senior running back Andre Williams put together a Heisman-nomination season on the football field, while Kutztown University senior Ziad Haddad was a Division II national wrestling champion at the heavyweight bout. Those were just two former Trojans that highlighted the collegiate ranks.

During last week's Parkland Athletic Press Conference, the next crop...

Thursday, April 17, 2014 by CJ HEMERLY in HS Sports

The Parkland boys lacrosse team finished off a long stretch of games with a convincing 18-1 victory at Northampton high school last Monday afternoon, where nine different Trojans found the back of the net.

It was the kind of game Parkland (8-2 overall) needed coming off a six-day span where it played five games. The stretch started with a 20-4 win at Nazareth last Wednesday. Then the Trojans defeated Freedom on Friday, and followed that up with a win at Exeter Saturday and a heart...

Zuber is 'living the dream' at UB

Thursday, April 17, 2014 by TODD KRESS in HS Sports

Her passion for the sport of basketball grew at an early age.

Ashley Zuber was two or three years old when she had her first experience with basketball.

However, that experience didn't start out so well.

After waiting in line with her father for a high school boys state playoff game at the Geigle Complex in Reading, Zuber got news that the event had been sold out. She broke down in tears.

But a ticket collector, after seeing Zuber crying outside, decided to make a...

Tennis win streak at 112

Thursday, April 17, 2014 by CHUCK HIXSON Special to the Press in HS Sports

Parkland tennis remains the only undefeated team in the Lehigh Valley Conference after surviving a scare in a nonleague match against Southern Lehigh. The Spartans battled the Trojans, but came up on the short end of a 4-3 score. Southern Lehigh is one of the stronger teams in the Colonial League and now stand at 8-2 in the league and 9-3 overall this season.

The Trojans' top singles player, Nick Kshatri and number three player Nate Lyman picked up straight set wins over their...

Parkland volleyball sweeps Whitehall

Thursday, April 10, 2014 by CJ HEMERLY Special to the Press in HS Sports

Just two days after getting a scare from Northampton, losing the first game of the match and having to fight for every point of the next three games, the Parkland boys volleyball team had to face off with another tough North Division opponent in Whitehall last Thursday night at Parkland high school.

This time, however, in front of their home crowd, the Trojans played with a lot of energy and passion and took down the Zephyrs in three straight games 25-18, 28-26, and 25-21 to remain...

Shorthanded tennis team tops EHS

Thursday, April 10, 2014 by CHUCK HIXSON Special to the Press in HS Sports

"You play with who you have," said Parkland tennis head coach Mike Hingston after his team downed rival Emmaus 5-2 Tuesday for their 110th straight Lehigh Valley Conference win. That mantra was important for his team, which was without number two singles player Pete Harrison and a couple of other players who were on a class field trip.

The missing players provided an opportunity for some young players to shine, including sophomore Nate Lyman, who picked up a key win at number three...

Trojans erase two-goal deficit to beat Emmaus

Thursday, April 10, 2014 by TODD KRESS in HS Sports

The way the Parkland boys' lacrosse team responded late during last week's contest against Emmaus certainly said a lot about the program.

Down 5-3 for over half of the final period, an apparent leg injury to junior Jon Warg left the Trojans without one of their top defenders for the final 6:14 of regulation.

But that didn't stop Parkland from clawing back into the game. In fact, the stoppage seemed to have sparked the inconsistent Trojans in a big way.

The Trojans went...

Castillo goal beats Hornets

Thursday, April 10, 2014 by TODD KRESS in HS Sports

She may be just a junior, but Sophie Castillo has certainly had her share of shining moments for the Parkland girls' lacrosse team.

During last week's Lehigh Valley Conference showdown against Emmaus, Castillo added another game-winner to her total.

Following a goal from the Lady Hornets with under three minutes remaining that tied it 11-11, Parkland won the faceoff and ensured the last shot would come from its side.

As the offense began to attack in the final seconds, a...

Six Trojans participate in Via game

Thursday, April 3, 2014 by TODD KRESS in HS Sports

The trio of Parkland seniors Jimmy Hahn, Nick Rindock and Justin Zajko carried the boys' basketball team to a District XI Class AAAA championship this past winter.

During the 39th Annual Via All-Star Basketball Classic on "Super Saturday" at Northampton Area Community College, those three helped the Lehigh Valley West squad jump out to an early lead and capture a 97-96 win over the Colonial League boys.

Hahn, Rindock and Zajko, who combined to score 31 points, made the first...

Volleyball earns comeback win

Thursday, April 3, 2014 by CJ HEMERLY Special to the Press in HS Sports

Playing with a lot of energy and intensity, the way a lot of schools play against Parkland, the Northampton boys volleyball team took the first game of a match between the North division rivals Tuesday at Northampton High School.

It gave the Konkrete Kids momentum, putting the Trojans in a hole that they don't find themselves in very often. But the momentum did not last long, and Parkland regained its composure to win the next three games and the match, 3-1, by scores of 24-26, 25-21...
