Lady Trojans beat Central Catholic

Thursday, January 30, 2014 by CHUCK HIXSON Special to the Press in HS Sports

Consider a major message sent from Parkland to the rest of the Lehigh Valley Conference girls basketballl teams.

Not only are the Lady Trojans now 10-0 in the LVC and 13-4 overall, but they've notched a win against Central Catholic (14-2 overall, 6-2 in the LVC) to help send that message.

"We've done a great job against teams that are our tier or below us, but as far as rising to the challenge and beating the league powers, that's something that we've struggled with," said...

Vikes are too much for short-handed Parkland

Thursday, January 30, 2014 by CJ HEMERLY Special to the Press in HS Sports

The highly anticipated game that was circled on the calendars of players, coaches, and fans of Parkland and Central Catholic finished in a lopsided victory.

The Trojans (14-3 overall, 7-3 Lehigh Valley Conference) were playing without leading scorer and rebounder Nick Rindock, who suffered a sprained ankle in the Hoop Group Showcase Sunday. Rindock was in a walking boot and is expected back sometime next week.

Although the senior was sitting at the front of the bench motivating...

Hockey team wins twice

Thursday, January 30, 2014 by CJ HEMERLY Special to the Press in HS Sports

The best teams are the ones that not only win games, but also win against other good teams. The Parkland ice hockey team wants to play against the top dogs from across the state.

The Trojans are undefeated in the Lehigh Valley Scholastic Hockey League, and have not faced much of a challenge up to the midway point in the season. A 17-0 win last Monday night over Pleasant Valley/Quakertown could be looked at as an easy win, but it was something head coach Gene Chandik and his staff were...

Trojan defense leads to win over Freedom

Thursday, January 23, 2014 by CJ HEMERLY Special to the Press in HS Sports

For much of the season, the Parkland boys basketball team has gotten off to slower starts but eventually turned it on later in the game. Last Friday night at Freedom High School was no different.

The best teams are those who go into the locker room and make the needed adjustments to pull out victories.

After leading by only four at the intermission, the Trojans outscored the Patriots 29-16 over the final 16 minutes en route to a 55-38 win.

"We like to focus on our...

Girls win ninth straight game

Thursday, January 23, 2014 by CHUCK HIXSON Special to the Press in HS Sports

The Parkland Lady Trojans have been working their way through a demanding schedule with a lot of success. Last Friday, Parkland stretched its win streak to nine games with a 46-25 win over Freedom, but had to come back for their fourth game in five days the next night and lost to a tough Berks Catholic team to end the streak.

Bad weather has made local schedules hectic and Parkland knows that all too well. The most recent snow wiped out a game at Bethlehem Catholic which was bumped to...

Beidelman making early impact at KU

Thursday, January 23, 2014 by TODD KRESS in Sports

Austin Beidelman knew that he would get an opportunity as a freshman to impact the Kutztown University men's basketball team.

And once given that chance to begin the 2013-14 season, Beidelman hasn't looked back.

The 2013 Parkland High School graduate has started all 16 games for the Golden Bears, and has been a vital part of what the team has done this season. In 16 starts, Beidelman has averaged 10.9 points per game, good for fourth on the team. He has dished out 52 assists,...

Trojan swimmers battle through difficult midseason schedule

Thursday, January 23, 2014 by CHUCK HIXSON Special to the Press in HS Sports

With their most recent wins over Dieruff, the Parkland swim teams have continued to fight their way through the schedule.

The girls team remains unblemished with a 5-0 record, while the boys have rallied to get to 3-2 on the season.

The schedule has a bit of a lull to it right now, with just the meet at Dieruff over the past week and just one meet (at home against Freedom Thursday afternoon) scheduled for the next week. The slower pace gives the swimmers a bit of time to recoup...

Parkland snaps Emmaus' streak

Thursday, January 16, 2014 by CJ HEMERLY Special to the Press in HS Sports

If the first three minutes were any indication of the outcome of the game, Parkland (10-2 overall, 4-2 LVC) was going to be a 40-point winner. But the Trojans had to settle for a seven-point victory against rival Emmaus last Tuesday night at Parkland, a night after a double-overtime heartbreaker versus Easton.

The win also snapped the Green Hornets seven game-winning streak.

The Trojans raced out to a 7-0 lead, forcing Emmaus head coach Steve Yoder to call a timeout. Just after...

Thursday, January 16, 2014 by CHUCK HIXSON Special to the Press in HS Sports

The Parkland diving team took some tough hits from graduation, but proved that its still a pretty strong bunch with a good performance at the Lehigh Valley Conference Diving competition at Emmaus High School last weekend.

Parkland divers took three of the top four spots on the boys side and two of the top five on the girls side at the LVC Meet.

Maddy Hain was the top finisher for the girls, coming in third behind Central Catholic's Nicole Sagl and Easton's Kelsey Jehl. Serena...
