Strampel goal beats Northampton

Thursday, October 10, 2013 by CHUCK HIXSON Special to the Press in HS Sports

Northampton and Parkland will likely be tired of each other before the soccer postseason comes to an end. A 1-0 Parkland win Monday night gave the two teams a split of their regular season games and it's very possible they'll meet again in the Lehigh Valley Conference playoffs next week and potentially in the District 11 Tournament down the road.

The two teams have begun to develop a rivalry, with Parkland (14-4, 12-2) taking all three meetings between them last season when the...

Hess earns silver at district tourney

Thursday, October 10, 2013 by TYLER TRUMBAUER Special to the Press in HS Sports

In previous years the District 11 golf tournament was 27 holes. This year officials decided to decrease the length to a standard 18-hole round. However, one round wasn't enough to find a District 11 Class AAA champion.

After 18 holes over two days, Parkland's Chad Hess carded a final score of 75. Emmaus' Grant Schumaker also finished with a 75.

A sudden-death playoff was held between Hess and Schumaker to decide the champion, starting on the 12th hole at Blue Ridge Country Club...

Lady Trojans fall to ACC

Saturday, October 5, 2013 by CJ HEMERLY Special to the Press in HS Sports

The Parkland girls soccer team had only given up two goals through its first 12 games. However, the Trojans gave up one more than that in a single game as Central Catholic (10-0-1) found the back of the net three times on the way to a 3-1 win last Saturday morning at Emmaus High School in the Don Hunt Memorial Tournament.

The Vikettes scored two goals within two minutes of each other early in the first half and added the third two minutes before halftime. Central Catholic had a high...

Field hockey shuts out ACC

Saturday, October 5, 2013 by CJ HEMERLY Special to the Press in HS Sports

Seven different players tallied goals for the Parkland field hockey team, which bounced back from a 1-0 overtime loss to Allen, defeating Central Catholic 9-0 last Monday afternoon at Parkland High School.

The Trojans dominated the Vikettes from the opening whistle and poured in the goals. The young Trojans, which return only four starters from last year's team, have shown improvement throughout the season.

"Over the past couple of weeks our younger kids have really gelled with...

Trojans knock off unbeaten Zephs

Saturday, October 5, 2013 by CJ HEMERLY Special to the Press in HS Sports

Kareem Williams has enjoyed a stellar season thus far for the Parkland Trojans football team. Williams has been an important part of the offense, and also has contributed on the defensive side of the ball.

After leading the team in rushing and touchdowns two weeks ago in a win at Liberty, Williams was at it again last Friday night, helping his team to its third straight win, 21-12 over Whitehall at Orefield Middle School stadium.

Williams rushed for 216 yards and three...

PHS wins seventh straight title

Saturday, October 5, 2013 by TYLER TRUMBAUER Special to the Press in HS Sports

Coming into Monday's LVC Girls Tennis Championship Tournament at Parkland High School, the expectations were certainly high for Parkland.

And perhaps the Lady Trojans exceeded those expectations, judging by the team's play from top to bottom.

The Trojans, who entered the tournament with a perfect 11-0 regular season record in conference play, captured first-place finishes in each of the tournament's six brackets en route to yet another league championship. Since the 2007 season...

Rival Zephs bring 4-0 record into showdown

Thursday, September 26, 2013 by CJ HEMERLY Special to the Press in HS Sports

The Parkland football team won a very important game last Friday at Liberty that will help in the standings, but the Trojans do not have long to relish in victory as they welcome a familiar rival in undefeated Whitehall (4-0 overall, 3-0 LVC).

"That was an important win for us because we didn't have our full identity yet as a football team," Morgans said. "This is another big one to really show who we are."

The matchup should be similar in terms of offensive schemes. The...

Parkland falls short in LVC golf showdown

Thursday, September 26, 2013 by TYLER TRUMBAUER Special to the Press in HS Sports

Chad Hess knew it was a big match. He played like it was a big match. He wanted to win even more than usual because it was a big match.

Unfortunately for the Parkland golf team, Hess' and his team's efforts were unsuccessful.

Parkland lost to Emmaus 410-414 in a tri-match last Wednesday at Brookside Country Club that also included Bethlehem Catholic (418). The magnitude of this match was escalated because the winner essentially won or would share the Lehigh Valley Conference...

Boys soccer team is in midseason form

Thursday, September 26, 2013 by MIKE HAINES in HS Sports

The Parkland boys soccer team is half way through its schedule. And the Trojans seem to be in midseason form just at the right time.

Parkland improved to 9-2 overall and 7-1 in the Lehigh Valley Conference with a win Monday over Bethlehem Catholic.

The Trojans got a pair of goals from sophomore forward Byron Derti to pull out to a 2-0 lead. Charles Kile, Oliver Guerra and Paul Khalil added a goal each in the win.

"First half was really, really sloppy," said Parkland head...

Williams makes big plays in win over LHS

Thursday, September 26, 2013 by CJ HEMERLY Special to the Press in HS Sports

Senior running back Kareem Williams went back and forth with emotions after three big plays in a span of about a minute.

Williams scored Parkland's opening touchdown against Liberty on a 19-yard rush with 4:07 left in the first quarter.

After a Liberty 80-yard touchdown on the next play made the score 7-6 (extra point blocked), the Hurricanes hit a short kickoff which was bobbled by Williams and recovered by a Liberty special teams player.

Instead of putting his head...
