Girls lacrosse beats Easton in semifinal

Courtney Lonesky found the back of the net for the fifth time. This goal brought Parkland's lead to 12-11 with 5:11 to go and forced head coach John Seitzinger to call timeout.

Three unanswered goals followed and the No. 1 seeded Trojans held on to defeat No. 4 seed Easton 15-11, Tuesday night in the District 11 Class AAAA girls lacrosse semifinals at Emmaus High School. They advance to their second straight district final.

Less than a week after winning the Lehigh Valley Conference volleyball championship, Parkland suffered an early upset loss in the district tournament. The Trojans' season ended Tuesday with a loss to Emmaus in the district semifinal.

Pitching and defense win championships and unfortunately for Parkland, Whitehall had an exceptional day in both areas to down the Trojans, 5-2 in the Lehigh Valley Conference Championship.

Pitcher Elliot Mortimer provided the pitching and third baseman Jeff Charles provided one big defensive play after another to boost Whitehall (19-2) to the championship and the top seed in the District 11 Tournament.

The District 11 3A volleyball tournament is set to kick off Thursday and Friday with first-round action with Whitehall and Delaware Valley playing in Thursday's only opening match up of the tournament.

In the top half of the district bracket, Parkland earned the top-seed and a bye after defeating Emmaus in Monday's LVC semis as well. The Trojans get the winner of the four-five matchup between Emmaus and Northampton, which will be played Friday night at Emmaus.

Parkland's path to the District 11 team tennis title included all of its biggest rivals over the past few years. And the Trojans made short work of all of them.

The top-seeded Trojans, which went undefeated against opponents from District 11 this season, earned the top seed in this year's team tournament.

The International Association of Lions Clubs from Lehigh and Northampton counties recently announced the schedule and players for their 32nd Annual All Star Soccer Classic.

This year's event will be held on Sunday, June 2 at Whitehall High School. The games will again feature graduating high school senior all-star boys and girls from the Mountain Valley Conference, Colonial League and the Lehigh Valley Conference.

No matter what the sport, Parkland-Emmaus is always an intense rivalry.

It has even spilled over to lacrosse.

A ferocious feud has brewed between Parkland's and Emmaus' girls lacrosse squads. When the teams met in Monday's Lehigh Valley Conference championship game at Nazareth's Andrew S. Leh Stadium, it was their third meeting off the season.

Junior Alex Flynn threw a complete game, two-hit shutout, striking out six and walking none to help Parkland (15-2 overall, 10-1 LVC) win its sixth straight game, and seventh straight conference game since a 1-0 setback at Coca Cola Park to Whitehall on April 13.

The Trojans used the arm of Flynn to grin and bear a 4-0 win at Easton last Friday afternoon.
