Lizak golden again on mat

Thursday, March 14, 2013 by PETER CAR in HS Sports

The one question that everyone had for Ethan Lizak following another state wrestling championship over the weekend had nothing to do with his form on the mat or his methodical style.

It was about him smiling.

The Parkland junior won his second straight state championship at Hershey's Giant Center Saturday night, scoring a 3-1 decision over Norristown's Zack Fuentes in the 113-pound title bout.

It was Lizak's third straight state finals appearance, his second straight...

Thursday, March 14, 2013 by CJ HEMERLY Special to the Press in HS Sports

The Parkland boys basketball team had plenty to celebrate last week after getting revenge against Liberty and then later beating Freedom to win the District 11 4A championship - the first for each player on the roster.

But with the state playoffs looming, they also had a lot of work to do.

The Trojans came prepared and showed no hangover effects in defeating District One's eighth seed Ridley 63-53 on Saturday night at Allen High School.

"We always play to win the next...

The Parkland girls have relay teams seeded seventh in the 400-yard freestyle, 12th in the 200-yard freestyle and 19th in the 200-yard medley relay event.

Thursday, March 7, 2013 by CJ HEMERLY Special to the Press in HS Sports

The Parkland girls basketball team were not donning gold like they wished to after wearing silver at the LVC tournament, but the Trojans, and their eight seniors, will be playing at least another week.

Senior Hannah Gombos scored 10 points as Parkland defeated Bangor 39-24 last Friday night at Easton Area Middle School in the 4A consolation round.

The win advances the Trojans (20-7) to the state tournament, which they will play this Friday night, for the first time since 2007,...

Strong effort nets district crown

Thursday, March 7, 2013 by CJ HEMERLY Special to the Press in HS Sports

The Parkland boys basketball team wanted it more, and they showed it.

Diving for loose balls, playing more physical, and running Freedom out of the gym with fast-break layups and open jump shots, brought Parkland to a 65-50 win the District 11 4A final last Saturday night at Easton Area Middle School.

It is the first district gold for the Trojans since 2009, and the third straight victory over the Patriots since losing to them the first game of the season back on December 8....

The Parkland Ice Hockey team completed a perfect season in the Lehigh Valley Scholastic Ice Hockey League on Friday, defeating Emmaus 6-1 to win the best of three Pure Division championship series 2-0.

Trojans (17-0-1) dominated the LVSHL from start to finish, with a combination of size, speed, and skill that could not be matched. Head coach Gerry Chandik could not be prouder of his team, and realizes what talent he has on his roster.

"Bunch of talented kids, we've seen a bunch...

Lizak leads as six Trojans reach states

Thursday, March 7, 2013 by PETER CAR in HS Sports

Ethan Lizak looked like himself back on the mat at last week's Northeast Regional 3A finals at Liberty's Memorial Gymnasium.

After battling through Northampton's Todd Hetrick with a 6-3 decision in the semifinals, Lizak appeared to not have been happy with that result.

When his brother, Jacob, lost at the buzzer against Nazareth's Tyrone Klump in a 4-2 106-pound championship bout, it only heightened Lizak's discourse.

So, he took it out on Pleasant Valley's Kenny...

Bangor got off to a quick start, converting two three-point play opportunities, but the crowd inside Pleasant Valley High School quickly learned that senior guard Austin Beidelman was not going to allow his team to fall behind again. The senior scored 10 first quarter points on...
