Rival Zephs bring 4-0 record into showdown

Thursday, September 26, 2013 by CJ HEMERLY Special to the Press in HS Sports

The Parkland football team won a very important game last Friday at Liberty that will help in the standings, but the Trojans do not have long to relish in victory as they welcome a familiar rival in undefeated Whitehall (4-0 overall, 3-0 LVC).

"That was an important win for us because we didn't have our full identity yet as a football team," Morgans said. "This is another big one to really show who we are."

The matchup should be similar in terms of offensive schemes. The...

Parkland falls short in LVC golf showdown

Thursday, September 26, 2013 by TYLER TRUMBAUER Special to the Press in HS Sports

Chad Hess knew it was a big match. He played like it was a big match. He wanted to win even more than usual because it was a big match.

Unfortunately for the Parkland golf team, Hess' and his team's efforts were unsuccessful.

Parkland lost to Emmaus 410-414 in a tri-match last Wednesday at Brookside Country Club that also included Bethlehem Catholic (418). The magnitude of this match was escalated because the winner essentially won or would share the Lehigh Valley Conference...

Boys soccer team is in midseason form

Thursday, September 26, 2013 by MIKE HAINES in HS Sports

The Parkland boys soccer team is half way through its schedule. And the Trojans seem to be in midseason form just at the right time.

Parkland improved to 9-2 overall and 7-1 in the Lehigh Valley Conference with a win Monday over Bethlehem Catholic.

The Trojans got a pair of goals from sophomore forward Byron Derti to pull out to a 2-0 lead. Charles Kile, Oliver Guerra and Paul Khalil added a goal each in the win.

"First half was really, really sloppy," said Parkland head...

Williams makes big plays in win over LHS

Thursday, September 26, 2013 by CJ HEMERLY Special to the Press in HS Sports

Senior running back Kareem Williams went back and forth with emotions after three big plays in a span of about a minute.

Williams scored Parkland's opening touchdown against Liberty on a 19-yard rush with 4:07 left in the first quarter.

After a Liberty 80-yard touchdown on the next play made the score 7-6 (extra point blocked), the Hurricanes hit a short kickoff which was bobbled by Williams and recovered by a Liberty special teams player.

Instead of putting his head...

Hess wins LVC golf title

Thursday, September 26, 2013 by TODD KRESS Special to the Press in HS Sports

Through two holes, Parkland's Chad Hess put himself in a tough position after a pair of bogeys to start his round at Monday's Lehigh Valley Conference Golf Championships at Bethlehem Golf Club.

But Hess, who finished in second place in last season's conference tournament, responded in a big way from that moment forward. He shot even par for the final 16 holes, and his round of 73 earned him a first place finish.

He was able to outlast defending champ Grant Schumaker of Emmaus,...

Parkland wins battle of unbeaten volleyball teams

Thursday, September 26, 2013 by CJ HEMERLY Special to the Prss in HS Sports

The teams were motivated. The crowd was raucous. It was just another battle of cross-town rivals on the volleyball court. In a matchup of unbeatens, Parkland (9-0) was able to withstand some Emmaus (8-1) flurries and win in three sets 25-19, 25-20, and 25-13.

It was a matchup of the No. 4 team in the state (Parkland) against the No. 5 team in the state (Emmaus), and had the feel of a state final in late September.

"It was awesome," said Parkland head coach Mike Krause. "The...

Stoudt wins DeSales; teams take third place

Thursday, September 19, 2013 by TYLER TRUMBAUER Special to the Press in HS Sports

At last year's DeSales Invitational, Mikayla Stoudt darted to the finish line seeing only three girls finishing ahead of her.

Last Saturday Stoudt had a clear path to the finish line.

With a time of 19:41.30, Stoudt finished strong and won the DeSales Invitational on a brisk September morning.

"The start was pretty fast as were the hills in the mid-section," said Stoudt. "The cornfield was a difficult part of the race. It's always hard to keep your pace there, but I...

Liberty is loaded with playmakers

Thursday, September 19, 2013 by CJ HEMERLY Special to the Press in HS Sports

After a dominating 48-7 victory last Friday night against Northampton, Parkland looks to continue the high level of play heading into a showdown at Liberty on Friday.

The Trojans lit up the scoreboard and played well on both sides of the ball for their two wins, both at home, but are looking for consistency after being shutout two weeks ago at Easton.

"This will be a true test to see if we're going in the right direction," said head coach Jim Morgans. "Defensively we've played...

Trojans rout Kids

Thursday, September 19, 2013 by CJ HEMERLY Special to the Press in HS Sports

Earlier in the week head coach Jim Morgans was looking for more consistency for his Trojans football team. After a season-opening 50-8 drubbing of Delaware Valley, Parkland was shutout at Easton the following Friday in a game that the Red Rovers seemed to want a little more.

But last Friday night, back at the friendly confines of Orefield Middle School Stadium, the Trojans were dominant on both sides of the ball in a 48-7 win over Northampton for their first conference victory.

Girls tennis streak is at 74 league matches

Thursday, September 19, 2013 by TODD KRESS Special to the Press in HS Sports

The Parkland girls tennis team has put together an impressive streak that dates back a number of years.

While Monday's match against Pocono Mountain East wouldn't affect their current winning streak of 74 consecutive league matches, the Trojans looked just as impressive as they've had all season long. No match went past two sets, and the Trojans (13-0 overall; 9-0 in LVC) handled the Cardinals, 7-0, at Parkland High School on Monday afternoon.

"I'm happy that we have a really...
