New players, same success for volleyball team

Heading into the 2013 season, Parkland volleyball head coach Mike Krause stressed teamwork as a key to success this year. Losing four starting players to graduation, including All-Americans Taylor Krause and Kelly Robertson, the Trojans have a more balanced team age wise.

LVC clears way for MVC teams

Finally, the Lehigh Valley Conference and Mountain Valley Conference appear to be joining forces.

During an LVC meeting on Wednesday morning, Aug. 14, league officials formally ratified their constitution to allow expansion.

It was the final hurdle from an LVC standpoint in order to move forward to join forces with the MVC to form the proverbial "super conference" that folks in the Lehigh Valley have been hearing about for months.

Five Parkland High School golfers took first place as a team at the 19th Annual Owen McCall Memorial Golf Tournament.

The event was held at Green Pond Country Club on Sunday, Aug. 18. The tournament served as an official qualifier for the Lehigh Valley Amateur Junior Division. A total of 44 players battled for 16 coveted spots in the the LV Amateur Jr. match play.

Owls' Dvoracek gets first-team reps

Parkland graduate Rob Dvoracek is in the process of getting back on the field where he saw immediate success. He was one of only three true freshman to play in all 11 games last year for the Temple University football team, making 10 tackles and one sack.

Katy Fexa was in her final season playing soccer at Parkland in 2010. She had been on some successful Trojan teams playing in Lehigh Valley Conference and District 11 championships. Local cyclists from Sprinters Edge Track Development Team, coached by Andrew Harris, took the podium for several events at the recent Junior National Track Championship at Trexlertown's Valley Preferred Cycling Center.

LV United 93 wins national soccer title

One local soccer team lost out on a chance to play for a national title, while another actually won a national title.

Lehigh Valley United 93 brought home the clubs first-ever national title last weekend, outlasting the Chicago Fire academy 1-0 in the United States Youth Soccer Association's under-19 boys national championship game.

Shane Campbell scored the games only goal for LVU in the 34th minute, while the Fire missed a penalty kick wide left in the 80th minute.


ABE League holds championship meet

A little over a week after claiming their second straight Sportsfest tournament championship, the Parkland boys basketball team was back to their winning ways in the Stellar Lehigh Valley summer league.

Two recent Parkland High School gradautes and former Trojan cross country runners were recently presented with scholarships from the Lehigh Valley Road Runners.

Cassidy Newman and Will Nemeth received their scholarships at a July 10 Summer Series race.
