SP youth legion team holds third place at 10-3

Wednesday, July 3, 2013 by TYLER TRUMBAUER Special to the Press in Sports

Ed Shapiro has been coaching for decades at various levels and in different capacities. He has been a part of many baseball teams and has seen a lot of great players.

With all of that experience, he still is awed by his 2013 South Parkland Junior Legion squad for its "team-first" mentality.

"They do what you ask them to do and they do what needs to be done," Shapiro said last week. "This is one of the most coachable groups of kids I've ever had. If you show them things as a manager, they listen and they go out and execute them. They all listen and work hard."

Bats silent in North Parkland's loss to Coplay

Thursday, June 13, 2013 by TODD KRESS Special to the Press in Sports

North Parkland legion baseball manager Terry Stoudt understands the quality of his pitching staff, but also has come to the realization that the offense may struggle at times throughout the season.

Much of that was seen during the Buffaloes' start to the season on Sunday, which included a double-header against West Allentown and Coplay.

So. Parkland 110s fall in OT

Thursday, November 8, 2012 by The Press in Sports

The South Parkland 110-pound A team's season came to a heart-breaking end on Saturday when the Trojans fell 6-0 in overtime by the Lower Macungie Mustangs in the semifinals of the SYFL playoffs.

Both teams battled all afternoon in a hard-hitting defensive struggle. After a scoreless first half, the Trojan defense forced back-to-back turnovers in the third quarter on interceptions by Devin Yeomans and Ryan Zolotsky. The Trojan offense, however, was unable to capitalize on the resulting good field position, as it was stopped both times by the aggressive Mustang defense.
