"The Grand Budapest Hotel" is an actor-studded comedy-drama that bristles with the joy of cinema. The film is a concoction of dizzying dialogue, madcap pacing, larger-than-life characters, bizarre encounters, manic escapades and stunning visuals.

While the film seems to have little to do with Budapest, Hungary, it is inspired by the sense of time and place of Eastern Europe sometime between the wars: World War I and World War II.

With the spotlight on Lehigh Valley high school musicals, leading up to the annual Freddy awards at the State Theatre for the Arts, Easton, the Lehigh Valley Press Focus section concludes its preview series.

Salsa music and hot summer nights in New York City's Dominican barrio sets the stage for cross-cultural love and family opposition in "In the Heights," 7 p.m. April 25, auditorium, Lincoln Leadership Academy Charter School, 1401 E. Cedar St., Allentown.

When the family hope, good girl Nina Rosario (Angela Moreno), drops out of college, the family doesn't take it well. Then when they find she is in love with Benny (Elijah Garcia), an English-speaking non-Hispanic boy, her father is furious.

We have a poorly-shaped overgrown yew on the west side of our house. It rises from its roots to nearly the top of the second story. If the top was not routinely pruned, it would extend well above our roofline and spread much wider in width than the double chimney.

The shrub's position adjacent to the chimney is no longer considered an enhancement to the beauty of the yard, but we keep it because it provides shelter, protection and branches for nesting, as well as soft red fruits and seeds, for the birds.

Quinn will quip: Comedian and "Saturday Night Live" alumnus Colin Quinn, above, brings his sardonic humor and political commentary to Musikfest Café with "Unconstitutional," 8 p.m. April 19, ArtsQuest Center, SteelStacks, 101 Founders Way, Bethlehem. During his "SNL" tenure (1995 - 2000), Quinn made his Broadway debut in "Colin Quinn: An Irish Wake." Post-"SNL," he was host of Comedy Central's "Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn" and the one-man stage show,"Long Story Short," a comedic look at the history of civilization.

When girls can do anything boys can do, Wild West gunplay and foreplay get serious in "Annie Get Your Gun," 7:30 p.m. April 24, 25; and 2 and 7:30 p.m. April 26, auditorium, Allentown Central Catholic High School, 301 N. Fourth St., Allentown.

Legendary storyteller Scheherazade comes to life at 2 p.m. April 13, Miller Symphony Hall, 23 N. Sixth St., Allentown, in Enchantment Theatre's production of "Aladdin and Other Enchanting Tales."

Landis Smith, Artistic Director and head of production for the show, explains that the idea for "Aladdin and other Enchanting Tales" came after the Enchantment Theatre, based in Philadelphia, toured the country with an orchestral performance of Rimsky-Korsakov's "Scheherazade."
